Our last move was really hard for us. Good thing I met Tet of Carepak Movers when I migrated to Singapore last year. I wish I knew about them when we moved homes in 2010.

The Art and Science of Doing the Laundry
One of the most valuable advise I got from my Mom was to get a good automatic washing machine. I always wondered why she invested on an expensive Whirlpool washing machine which could wash up to 10 kilograms of clothes. I realized that since the 90s she's only actually bought 2 washing machines.
Some friends though dissuaded us from buying an expensive washing machine before we married. They said that it was going to make a dent on our electricity bill. I don't really know how much electricity it would eat up, but I thought it would be a good trade-off.
Here's why we got an automatic washing machine:
1. We decided not to get a helper. Both of us had no clue how to do the laundry when we got married, but since both our parents were using automatic washing machines we figured it would be easy to manage.
2. Save time. We both have very busy jobs and one of the things that we realized was if we got an ordinary washing machine someone would have to hang around it while doing the laundry because you'd have to transfer the clothes to another tub for rinsing.
3. It's better to do your own laundry rather than bringing it to a laundry shop. We have friends who keep complaining about ruined clothes and lost clothing. Save yourself the pain and just do it yourself.
4. Value for money. The machine we got was around PhP16K, but we paid for it on installment basis so it wasn't as painful in the pocket.
5. Togetherness and enjoying laundry time. When I moved to Singapore I had to teach Sweetie how to do the laundry. He actually took a video of me sorting clothes and then loading the washing machine. He always wondered why I liked to do the laundry (it's both an art and a science!) and now he tries to beat me into doing it (yeah we're funny that way)!
That's why it's important to choose your household appliances wisely (just like voting!). Buying cheap stuff doesn't necessarily mean it would save you money. If you can buy an expensive smartphone then you can definitely afford to buy an automatic washing machine.

Cheesy Sunday: Nobody Loves Me Like You Do
I was on the plane back to Singapore when this song played on my iPod. I immediately liked the song because it reminded me of Sweetie. It made me appreciate him even more because he's very loving and patient. I don't think any other guy would be as understanding as he is especially now that I've been hopping from one country to another.

Two Years and a Quarter
For the first time in 6 months I'm bored. I've been so busy I haven't had the time to blog!
My newly married friend, Jayvee, pinged me earlier and he said they've just moved to their new home. I asked if they burned anything yet. He said so far none. I remember my first few months with Sweetie. It was one disaster after another. I had zero domestic skills when we got married so I learned on the job. Thank God though there's YouTube where you can learn almost anything. I can attribute my cooking, laundry and ironing skills to YouTube. You can learn a gazillion things on that thing, haha.
It's been 2 years and a quarter since Jay and I married and just as we were settling on a routine I moved to Singapore 6 months ago. I'm lucky I get to come home every month, but it doesn't make parting any less harder every time. I've been hopping from one place to another but we stay in touch by having a Google Hangout almost every day. One thing I learned though is I start to go crazy after two weeks of being away.
Early this year we sat down and re-thought our living arrangements since our place in Manila is now too big for two boys. And it's just hard for them to manage the house (90% of my plants are dead!) on their own. So after doing some math we decided to invest in a smaller, more manageable place. Now we're trying to figure out what we need to get rid of so we can fit in our stuff. A garage sale is imminent in the coming months. One thing I learned about living in another country is you don't really need a lot of stuff. I just brought one suitcase when I moved and I survived. Just keep the essentials.
So this is my year 2 check-in, which reminds me I should find time to put together our year 2 photo book.

Happy Valentine's Across the Miles
Hi Sweetie,
Happy Valentine's Day! Just thought I'd drop you a note here in our marriage blog. Yes, I know it's a public blog! :D
Anyway, I thought I'd surprise you this Valentine's Day since you gave me an awesome welcome home present -- a dozen white roses and roses on my side of the bed! I know it's been really hard being far apart, but I'm sure pretty soon we'll be joined on the hip again.
So last weekend you were surprised to see two of our friends, Fitz and Don, stop in front of our house. I had conspired with them to help me get you a V-day gift. I know you thought that Fitz just came to see me to deliver some shirts for a blogger in SG (which is true!), but he actually also brought my gift for you.
I know you've been looking for my surprise all over our room. It's not there! I couldn't possibly find the right time to hide something in our room since you were always following me around the house! So it's in my close your eyes when you enter walk-in-closet, inside the brown native box Charisma got me for Christmas. Oh, before you get to my surprise I also have a card for Mom and Miguel, please just give it to them.
